Abstract: This dataset provides cartographic representation of "wide" linear water features in Southwest Alaska.
Purpose: This dataset is used for cartographic representation of "double-line" streams where braided watercourses, wide channels and multi-channels occur on stream/river systems. This particular version of the dataset was developed to submit to the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD).

Data Quality Information
Logical Consistency Report: Original cover was vertically intergreated with lakes and shoreline cover. Arcs were digitzed in downstream direction.
Completeness Report: Essentially 100% of the Tongass National Forest has been mapped and classified at the 'Process Group' level. Some 50,000 stream miles are included in this data set. However, it should be noted that this underestimates total miles of stream on State and Private lands. Anticipate base stream miles on Tongass NF lands will increase by 5 to 10% over the next 2-3 years as missing streams are added. Field verification of stream channels, locations, etc. is likely higher in areas of the Forest slated for resource development. Areas not slated for development (i.e. wilderness, LUD II) have not been surveyed as rigorously.
Processing Steps
Step 1 Process Description: Streams layer is edited for submission to NHD. Under NHD standards, all streams arcs must connect from source to sink, defined as low-tide shoreline. Stream arcs connected where necessary by adding arcs coded as 'Unclassified Connector', 'Unclassified Intertidal', 'Lake', 'Karst', and 'Ice'. Arcs were 'flipped' so they all point in direction of stream flow.
Step 1 Process Date: 20010101
Step 2 Process Description: Photo mapping transferred to 2" to the mile, pin-registered mylar overlays and then digitized under contract for the Tongass N.F.
Step 2 Process Date: 20010101
Step 3 Process Description: Streams in CU 101, CU102, CU103 updated. Incorrect channel type fixed. CHANTYP = UI or UC attributed as STREAM-CLASS = 1.
Step 3 Process Date: 20140319
